The Saint Kizito Institute has already completed major projects. Since its creation in 1961 by his Ecellency Bishop Michel Ntuyahaga, it has provided schooling to children with disabilities, and they benefit from physical rehabilitation care. The Centre is committed to contributing to a society where people with disabilities have access to education and healthcare, a society transformed by sustained growth and job creation for people with disabilities.

The Centre is involved in:

  1. Schooling for children with physical disabilities
  2. Physical rehabilitation for people with disabilities.

In terms of education, the Center has a boarding primary school. Some of those who have attended it hold important positions and contribute effectively to the development of Burundian society

During the 2015-2016 school year, the Centre enrolled 236 children, including 196 boarders, and 158 have motor disabilities. The primary mission of the Centre  was functional rehabilitation and orthopedic fitting for school children admitted to boarding school.

Today, the Centre also welcomes external children and adults in need of rehabilitation care. For example, the number of people consulted in 2015 was 1,477: 1,418 were children under 18 years of age, including 1,322 children under 5 years of age (93.23%).
